Biography
Thomas Blore (1764-1818), topographer, was born on 1 December 1764 at Ashbourne, Derbyshire. He attended the local grammar school, before becoming a solicitor in Derby. Blore moved to Hopton to manage the affairs of Philip Gell, and on Gell's death in 1795 entered the Middle Temple in London, although he was never called to the bar. Blore's topographical works included extensive work on the topography and antiquities of Hertfordshire. He was the father of the architect Edward Blore (1787-1879). He died on 10 November 1818 in London.

The papers include: the preface to the Domesday Book; the Domesday Book entry for Derbyshire; transcripts and abstracts of deeds and other documents regarding Derbyshire lands and families, including lists of sheriffs of Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire, and wills.
