Scope and Contents
A note by George Airy, dated 1869, accompanying a sketch by Caroline Smith of the Royal Observatory as viewed from the south-east side, circa 1836 [RGO 116/4/1-2].
The note describes, in considerable detail, the layout and use of the buildings shown in the sketch and the subsequent changes to both the buildings and grounds since Airy’s occupation of the Observatory, such as the enclosure of the Magnetic Court and Ground in 1837.
