Episodes: Leavis on critical theory, 1953
Scope and Contents
In 'Episodes' Baxandall makes reference to the English literary critic, F. R. Leavis, by whom he was taught when he was a student at Cambridge University (1951-1954). In the absence of Leavis describing his own methods for literary criticism, Baxandall recalls creating a document of his own titled 'Leavis on critical theory' which he describes in 'Episodes' as a "reduction of some of the going terms into a brief glossary, four closely typed pages, an illegitimate document I showed no one". He included a short specimen of the document in 'Episodes'. Contains the original typescript document
